Here are some great links for Lenten reading and action

Each week during Lent the Bishops of Australia will be sharing their thoughts and reflections on the Sunday Gospels leading to Easter. This innovative program, The Reflection, is a free, Internet-based resource that will comprise 6 short pre-recorded segments (one for each week of Lent 2010). Each segment will follow a lectio divina process for the forthcoming Sunday of Lent (an exploration of the Gospel through reflection and prayer).
The segments will be posted online each Monday at 7pm, starting the Monday prior to Ash Wednesday – 15 February 2010. For this pilot program, 12 Australian Bishops have agreed to participate in the series.

Third Sunday of Lent

Domingas lives in Oecusse, an isolated enclave on the west coast of East Timor. In 2005 she was the target of sexual violence and suffered serious physical abuse.
Domingas required immediate medical assistance as well as long-term counselling to assist her in regaining her self esteem and helping her to rebuild her life.
Caritas Australia supported PRADET (Psychological Recuperation and Development in East Timor) to build a ‘safe place’ at Dili Hospital where women can come for medical and emotional support. Local staff also assisted Domingas to access the social justice system which enabled the police to begin an investigation.
Women such as Domingas often suffer from cultural taboos and can be ostracised from their community. PRADET was able to support Domingas to return to her village and helped her to overcome the resistance she encountered. PRADET also gave Domingas a small grant to expand her family kiosk to sell more products and increase her income.
Domingas is now well on the way to recovery and she is also able to support other women who have had similar experiences. This has helped them to gain confidence and have hope for the future.
“The Church desires for her part to contribute to upholding the dignity, role and rights of women.” John Paul II.
Your donation to Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion helps deliver high quality care to women in more than 30 different countries around the world.

At the moment there are more than 100 projects listed on the map in more than 40 countries but Catholic Mission works in 160 countries worldwide, funding thousands of projects from orphanages to HIV/AIDS awareness programs to supporting a church leader in his/her studies.
